What is the Order of the Secret Monitor?

Introduction

Like much of Freemasonry the rituals and lessons are taken from the Old Testament with the intention of building a good man into a better man.

The ritual of the Order is based on the first book of Samuel which contains the story of David and his remarkable friendship with Jonathan. The whole essence of the Fraternity is founded on this friendship, with special officers appointed to maintain personal contact with all members of the Conclave. Brethren of the order are challenged to apply, in a very real way, the practice of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth.

In case you were wondering about David, yes this is the same David who slew Goliath in the story that many of us learned in primary school. â€‹Later in his career King David commenced the work of building the Temple at Jerusalem, drawing up plans and sourcing materials and manpower. The sacred structure, however, was completed by Solomon - David’s son and successor. Thus, this Order does tie into the "Solomonic degrees" of Craft Freemasonry, the Holy Royal Arch, the degree of Mark Master Mason and the four degrees of the Order of Royal and Select Masons.

Admission Requirements

The candidate must be a Master Mason currently subscribing to a Craft Lodge.

There is no need to be a member of any other appendant order.

It is not a requirement to be of Trinitarian Christian faith. However an essential qualification in every candidate is the willingness to offer and be ready and responsive to friendship.

As with any aspect of Freemasonry there is a joining fee and annual fees. However these are much lower than in the craft lodge.
