Ceremonies and Regalia
Ceremonies
Just as craft Freemasonry has the three degrees of Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft and Master Mason so too does our order have three degrees.

During the first degree, or Induction as a Secret Monitor, the ceremony recalls the close friendship between David and Jonathan through trying times and against strong opposition. In this degree the candidate will learn secret discrete ways of advising a friend to proceed or desist in a course of action. There is a bow and arrows will be shot!

The second degree, or Admission as a Prince, recalls the persecution of David by Saul and the way in which David selected and proved his friends. No bow this time, but lots of swords!

Uniquely, the third degree is that of Installation, recalling the anointing of David as King and the opportunities and duties of leadership.

Regalia
The Order of the Secret Monitor has simple regalia. Some (including the webmaster) are disappointed to learn that in this order there is no elaborate apron.

The candidate is presented with a breast jewel during the first degree ceremony. The ribbon is three stripes of purple-yellow-purple and from which the symbol of the order is suspended.

During the second degree the jewel is replaced with one in which the stripes are reversed to yellow-purple-yellow.

On being installed, the Supreme Ruler no longer wears the breast jewel but instead a collarette of the same pattern of yellow-purple-yellow.

Officers also wear sashes which, at provincial level, state their office. There is also a tie specific to the order.
